Gookie and Nindy normally live drably as Rob and Cindy Hough. In 1986 they attended their first seminar on clowning in Dallas, Texas led by Ernie and Jean Liebig and Ralph Dewey. Three wonderfully talented and gifted people. Using Dewey's skit for a supposed sin washing machine that can't work (because only Jesus can wash away our sins) on their first clowning opportunity, one girl gave her heart to Jesus. What a blessing that was and such a great start to their ministry.

In Anchorage Alaska, God inspired the idea for people to volunteer their front yards and Gookie and Nindy will provide the rest:  the signs around their neighborhood with the time and place; the grill and the free hot dogs; the cotton candy; and the excitement of the clowns sharing the joy of Jesus.

Gookie and Nindy are not good ballooners. They do make fish balloons, small dogs and they are thankful that Dewey did teach them to make apple balloons -- and kids do love knowing that they are the apple of God's eye.

Over the years, Gookie and Nindy have performed in churches, orphanages, rehab centers, senior centers, parks and have done street ministry. They traveled to the Ukraine several times with a mission group from Faith Christian Community Church in Anchorage. They have also trained clowns in Alaska and the Ukraine.

Although Gookie and Nindy present the availability of God's forgiveness and the peace that can only come from God, they normally don't give an "invitation." The decision to make peace with God is too important to for anyone to verbalize to make a clown happy. That is something they prefer leaving to others. However, when just the two of them are out they are always willing to pray with someone.

Freckles and Konkie
As God intended it, Rob and Cindy were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Christy and Amanda. They became able assistants and also were able to develop their more colorful side and for years they were known as Freckles and Konkie. Freckles continued to perform with her proud parents even while she was in college. Christy did learn sign language and found that it crossed over language barriers in the performances. Amanda discovered her gift for playing music that God had instilled in her and sang and played her guitar at many performances.

Both of the girls are now married and Gookie and Nindy miss them and their talents in the performances. They have been such an important part of Rob and Cindy's lives, that to write about our clown history we have to include them. They share the same passion for Jesus and now Christy is married to Bryan and living in the Seattle area and Amanda is married to Anthony and lives near Vancouver, Canada.  We look forward to eventually having grandkids that would want to participate in our ministry.
